In the classroom we have had a discussion about our vision on global citizenship. I had prepared pro's and contra's for two thesises on this topic. In the classroom we have had a discussion and I have used the arguments from below:

International and global companies that produce their products in countries where child labor is tolerated should be boycotted. 

Pro
- Children should not have to work; it is bad for their health
- Children should go to school and study for a job
- The costumers of global companies do not want child labor, so they should not use children to safe/improve the company image.

Contra
- Child labor is cheaper, because the wages are lower or nothing at all
- Children can do easy work, so why should not let them work?
- if they don’t work they are only playing and destroying things.

Managing cultural diversity within an organization is a waste of time and money. 

Pro
- Culture and religion are things for home, you do not have to manage this on the workplace.
- It has no effect; people will continue to have their own culture
- Every culture is in the basics the same, so it is not a problem, and organizations do not need to manage this.

Contra
- People and cultures within an organization are very diverse, it is important to bring them together.
- It is useful to manage cultural diversity to prevent problems and conflicts based on the cultural differences.
- The most important of a lot of companies are the people and how they collaborate. So it is never a waste of money when you are trying to improve relationships between colleagues.

Compared to other students, Dutch bachelor graduates have a greater chance of becoming successful international professionals. 

Pro
- Dutch people are more open minded than students in a lot of other countries, so they can understand and adjust probably easier in an international environment.
- Dutch students are good in the English language, compared to students from other countries.
- The education system is above average in The Netherlands.

Contra
- Every year more Dutch people are attending a bachelor study, so the average level of all these students is getting lower. This can be a risk for the best students, who have to work together with the lesser gods.
- Dutch students are not committed to their study and enjoy ‘the student life’ with parties, alcohol and drugs.
- English is not the native language of Dutch students, so they do not speak it as good as native English people.

Feedback

I talked a lot during the debate. At one moment the jury told me they wanted to hear some other people who are more shy. I talk with confidence and have a good intonation. I can improve my debate skills by a better preperation. When I have better arguments I gen convince the others even more.
